Elie Wiesel was 15 when he was deported to Auschwitz. His mother and sister are gassed as soon as they arrive; his father died there shortly afterwards.
Here he is in Buchenwald during the liberation of the camps in 1945. “I often blame myself for still being alive”he will write.
